Matthew is a sweet young man with an infectious smile and laugh. He is a caring child who is polite and loves to help. For example, Matthew helped create and decorate top hats to garnish the Christmas trees this past December. He held an on-campus job for a time, helping to clean and organize. Matthew also enjoys dressing up and looking his best. When he has a meeting, appointment, or session he likes to wear button-up shirts with a tie. When feeling scared, on his birthday, or sometimes to help him feel safe, he likes wearing a red cape.
Matthew has a kind nature and enjoys being around fun and energetic individuals who can engage with him in a variety of activities. Matthew likes to be a part of the group and is friendly and engaging with his peers; however, he can be sensitive to teasing from others. Matthew really enjoys running and track; he ran a 5k at his current placement in 2015 and earned 2nd place out of all those who ran (staff and youth). He has participated in several 5ks and other running events. Matthew also enjoys basketball and other outdoor activities. Matthew made the football team at his current placement and played at home and away games in the Fall of 2015.
Aside from running and basketball, Matthew’s other favorite hobbies include reading, typing and general computer-related activities. Matthew is a Harry Potter fan. His favorite movies are Man of Steel and Batman III. Matthew loves animals and his favorite is a shark. His favorite food is pizza.
Matthew tries very hard in school and likes to please. He has a great drive to learn. He is very motivated to help adults around him. Matthew does well with positive reinforcement, positive language, encouragement, and compliments. Matthew needs a one or two-parent home that will provide strong structure but who are also willing to be flexible and adapt to his needs. He would benefit from having an outgoing and energetic family who enjoys engaging in a wide variety of activities. He likes to be around adults and greatly benefits from one-on-one time with his caregivers. Ideal qualities in caregivers include a willingness to be open-minded to different parenting techniques, experience in fostering, patience, and a strong disposition. A family for Matthew must be willing to engage in family therapy and ensure that Matthew continues individual therapy. Matthew’s disposition is tied with approval and a sense of mastery. He needs a family that will implement opportunities for him to be successful. Matthew will need to be the youngest child in the home.
